This chef’s favorite brand has launched a product line with Sophia Roe, which is WFH’s dream | Food and Wine

The new Tilit color unisex workwear series is my daily uniform.

My love affair with Tilit began when I wore one of their jumpsuits for the first time—to be precise, the one made in collaboration with pasta expert Missy Robbins. This simple black single product makes me think I can do anything. I wore it on Amtrak for eight hours. I also paired it with statement earrings (remember those?) for the last-minute plan, and even wore it for a dinner party.

As a favorite of hotel professionals, Tilit's chef jackets, aprons and work pants are easy to use between practicality and fashion. Unsurprisingly, their latest collaboration with chef and health advocate Sophia Roe follows the same line of thinking.

The new collection includes four unisex work jackets and trousers in colors such as emerald, eye-catching blue-green and rust. Red tones are perfect for stealing leaves and baking apple pie.

"I am deeply inspired by the death process of aizome or indigo," Roe told Food & Wine. "I was not able to establish contact with my grandmother until my later years, and it was really inspiring to see her wearing the most beautiful aizome cotton and silk clothes."

All the clothes worn by Roe's grandmother can be used as work clothes, Roe recalled that these fabrics were "moderate weight" and perfectly tailored. "Japan has an undeniable handicraft culture, and part of my personal aesthetic is to pay tribute to her," she said.

Although the series was originally intended to be launched in April, as the pandemic began, Tilit's factory turned to cover production, which meant that many releases including this one were suspended. But the increasingly blurred line between work and family, and many of us-myself included-trying to create everyday ways, such as using everyday uniforms, give this series more meaning.

Tilit co-founder Jenny Goodman said: “For some reason, it all feels like it was launched in the fall of 2020 after all.” “Daily uniforms and the demand for bright highlights with strong colors feel mature at this moment. "

It is worth noting that 10% of the net sales of the series will be donated to Edible Schoolyard. Given the current world conditions, the Tilit team and Roe are deeply moved by this decision.

"Chefs are constantly adapting to different roles and stages inside and outside the kitchen," Goodman said. "We think Sophia is a good example of this new type of chef, so when [she] finally contacted her team for a year of work on a series, it was a natural fit."
