An organisation of ex-servicemen has urged the Centre to frame a strict law to prevent the sale of the Army combat uniform in the market.

State Honorary Commissioned Officers’ Welfare Association chief Capt Jagdish Verma (retd) says the Centre’s decision to introduce a new pattern and design of the uniform for Army troops is appreciable. “The new fabric is lighter, stronger and more breathable. The cloth with a particular patent/mark should be made available only through authorised sources of the Army so that it is not sold in the open market. But it is unfortunate that some dealers are reportedly stocking the cloth for sale to unauthorised persons,” he said.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising four eminent persons as trustees.

The Tribune, the largest selling English daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the paper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.

The Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
