Duchess of Cambridge chooses red coat dress for Wales visit

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have arrived in Wales to spread the Platinum Jubilee spirit. The senior members of the Royal Family arrived in the Welsh capital on Saturday to watch concert rehearsals in Cardiff Castle as part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Kate, 40, looked relaxed as she and Prince William visited Cardiff Castle with their two eldest children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

The duchess stunned in a bright red coat dress by British brand Eponine London. It features a standing collar at the neck and hits at Kate’s go-to length, the mid-calf.

Kate wore a navy dress beneath the scarlet coat, seen peeking out beneath the opening, which featured a button-down fastening.

The navy dress beneath matched the smart coat of her daughter, Charlotte, who made her first official visit to Wales on Saturday, along with her older brother, George.

The Duchess of Cambridge has worn red for her public appearances on a whole host of occasions, as was the choice for her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana.

The late-people’s princess would often opt for the scarlet hue for public appearances, and many of her most iconic outfits are in fact the vibrant red shade.

Perhaps taking inspiration from the Queen herself, who reportedly likes to wear vibrant shades so that she can be seen from the crowd, Diana chose red time and time again, from before she entered into the Royal Family, even until after her divorce from Prince Charles was finalised.

And it looks like the Duchess of Cambridge took a leaf out of Diana’s book for the visit to Cardiff Castle on Saturday by choosing red not only for a public appearance, but also for a visit to Wales, where red is one of the most significant national colours.

Not only appearing as the central red dragon on the Welsh flag, the bright scarlet hue shows up in Welsh fabrics throughout history and forms part of the national Welsh dress, a subtle tribute from Kate to the host nation for Saturday’s visit.

The duchess swept her signature brunette locks into a gentle ponytail that looked relaxed compared to the pinned bun at the Trooping the Colour ceremony on Thursday.

The high ponytail allowed for her earrings to be on show, by Welsh brand Spells of Love, showing a sweet nod to an independent local brand, as the duchess often does on her official visits.

The duchess completed the look with suede high-heeled court shoes, that look to be her go-to Jimmy Choo ‘Romy 100’ style, and accessorised with a £295 bag by one of the Royal Family’s favourite handbag brands, Demellier.

After two days of celebrations in London for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee weekend, senior members of the Royal Family are making their way outside the capital to see what the rest of the UK has in store for the weekend.

Much of the Royal Family will be heading to Epsom this evening, despite the Queen pulling out of the event due to ongoing mobility issues, and experiencing ‘mild pain’ after the Trooping the Colour ceremony on Thursday.

The Cambridge family are scheduled to make their way to the annual royal horse race after their visit to Wales this afternoon.

Government prosecutors in the case of Tom Barrack on Thursday read aloud hundreds of emails and texts sent by the former Trump fundraiser, who is on trial at a federal courthouse in Brooklyn, New York, for allegedly illegally lobbying on behalf of the United Arab Emirates. The hours-long recitation included messages to Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka Trump, her husband Jared Kushner, and Trump's 2016 campaign manager, Paul Manafort. Barrack, a billionaire California-based businessman and longtime Trump associate, has pleaded not guilty to charges that he acted as a foreign agent for the UAE from 2016 to 2018 and failed to register with Justice Department, which prosecutors say constitutes a crime.

Florida federal judge Aileen Cannon on Thursday rejected a request from the special master she appointed to review documents seized from former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate to have Trump's legal team verify that the government's inventory log of seized items is accurate. Judge Cannon's ruling again hands yet another process win to Trump's legal team, which will now no longer face the same deadline to state on the record whether they would dispute any of the items listed on the government's detailed inventory. Trump's legal team earlier this week filed a letter under seal raising their objection to the request from special master Raymond Dearie -- even as Trump repeatedly in public statements and interviews has made baseless suggestions the FBI "planted" documents in order to incriminate him.
