This weekend, the Boulder County Farmers Market will hold its free winter market, bringing in more than 100 Colorado vendors selling fresh produce, specialty meats, eggs, baked goods, preserves, cheese, hot sauces, wine, prepared food, coffee, kombucha, jewelry, skincare, woodwork, home goods, and more.

Children’s activities include DIY ornament making and there will be live music performances throughout the weekend. The event run 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Boulder County Fairgrounds’ exhibit building, 9595 Nelson Road, Longmont. Find more info at bcfm.org.

James Beard-nominated chef/owner Kelly Whitaker of Basta, 3601 Arapahoe Ave., Boulder, has enlisted chef Brian Lockwood for a fall residency through Jan. 1. During his time there, Lockwood will plate Israeli-inspired dishes.

A Boulder native, Lockwood was chef de cuisine at New York City’s Eleven Madison Park and has worked at Frasca Food and Wine in Boulder, California’s French Laundry and Spain’s celebrated El Celler De Can Roca.

Chef Lockwood’s wood-fired, five-course Israeli dinner menu includes: squash and its seeds with tahini yogurt, white truffle gnocchi with Jerusalem artichoke with walnut and parmesan; half chicken with hot pepper, lemon and strained yogurt; whole roasted turbot for two with a green schug (Yemenite hot sauce), shiitake, miso-brown butter emulsion; and honey meringue with sesame and milk ice cream.

All ticket proceeds will benefit Sophie’s Neighborhood, a charity (founded by Boulder chef Hosea Rosenberg) that creates awareness about the disease Multicentric Carpotarsal Osteolysis (MCTO), which affects Rosenberg’s daughter, Sophie. Tickets start at $95 per person and are available at exploretock.com/bastaboulder.

Aether Apparel, an outdoor apparel maker of technical clothing, partnered with Boulder’s Corrida, 1023 Walnut St., #400, to launch the Aether Lounge on the rooftop of the Spanish-inspired chophouse.

This alpine-themed escape is designed for the enjoyment of pre- or post-dinner cocktails and features cozy and, perhaps most importantly, heated-yurt seating. Open until May 1, the space is available for reservations 3-9 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday and 3-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

A selection of Aether fashions will be on display and all Corrida diners will receive a code for free expedited shipping at aetherapparel.com. Additionally, $5 from each Aether Old Fashioned cocktail purchase will be donated to the Boulder Shelter for the Homeless.

Speaking of Spanish cuisine, new eatery Gemini recently opened at 115 Pearl St., Boulder. The family-run restaurant spotlights contemporary Spanish fare, celebrating the dynamic food and wine of the region and its international influences.

Featured items include various charcuterie and cheese choices, including Spanish jamón serrano ham and Manchego cheese crafted from raw sheep’s milk. There’s also an impressive array of classic tapas selections, including patatas bravas crispy potatoes with garlic aioli and gambas al la plancha head-on shrimp with garlic chili crisp.

Platters include pollo a la brasa, featuring a bone-in chicken leg and thigh accompanied by haruki turnips and salsa de aji amarillo. Another choice is the salmon a la plancha served with shallot apple butter and Brussels sprouts.
